Once rescued all the animals get the treatment and care they need before we try and get them the best homes possible.

We get a lot of ex-racing greyhounds at Happy Landings.
The fate of these unofficial racing dogs, the flapper trap dogs, can be worse, being tied to gates in remote places to starve to death. Their ears removed to destroy the tattoo evidence – it is not a nice trade. Our door, whenever possible is open to these dogs.
The ‘trainers’ have arrived at the gate before now with a "take it or I shoot it" have telephoned "I gotta dog that wont run- do you want it? No not particularly but better we do than you. We try hard to get them to face a certain amount of reality of welfare by making a contribution towards its care – usually the most we can hope for is the equivalent of what it would cost to have the dog put to sleep – particularly when we point out that shooting it or dumping it is illegal (hence the ears)

In 2001 we took in 5 greyhound bitches in various states of health. All immediately came into season and none had vaccinations - £1000 for veterinary work alone.
