Batty

Batty

At approximately 7 years old, big eared terrier x, “Batty Big Ears” was a local stray when she came to us as a youngster in 2002. At that time she showed clear signs of physical abuse and took a lot of time and work to begin trusting humans. Even now she can still sometimes be worried by new people (especially men) if they overwhelm her.

Batty has been in a lovely home since then where she has flourished, but unfortunately her adopters circumstances changed and she had to be returned to us. Batty is a typical terrier in many respects. Hugely intelligent, she loves being out and about exploring and going for long walks, playing with toys and burying chews. She also has a real soft side and enjoys a bed by the fire and plenty of cuddles. She has a real weakness for having her chest rubbed! Batty has always been good with other dogs and is used to contact with children of 8 years +. She cannot be homed with cats or other small furry creatures.

Batty is consistently ruled out by people because she is a natural born escapologist, cannot be let off lead and will automatically dig out of a garden. She needs either very specific fencing or to go out in the garden on a lead. She would be perfectly happy without a garden, provided she got her walks. She is a lovely dog who really does deserve another chance.

dudley

Dudley

At 2 ½ years Dudley is still very much a baby. He has had an extremely sheltered, insular life and really has not seen enough of the world - resulting in a nervous dog with absolutely no self confidence. His limited experiences mean that he struggles to understand new situations and to meet new people – although he is slowly improving and gaining confidence.

Dudley is terrified of everything new – which is most things in the world! It can be all too easy to mother Dudley, giving him lots of reassurance and cuddles but this just makes him worry all the more. He needs a calm, strong pack leader to take complete control of him. He needs to know that he doesn`t have to worry about life because his human is in charge of his world. Dudley needs to go back to the beginning and have full training and full socialisation, just like a puppy. He would not currently be happy being left alone for very long. He has lived with one other dog but is now having to learn how to meet new dogs of different shapes and sizes. We believe that he could be fully dog friendly with ongoing re-training – he is more than half way there now. Dudley has never experienced children so we would not want to home him with children under 10 years.

penn

Penn

Roughly 8 – 10 years old, a proper mongrel, so ugly that he is beautiful...or so we like to think! Penn came to us originally in 2004, an unwanted stray from Ireland, a “bit of a lad” and very much used to looking after himself. Penn has been homed out a couple of times since then but in each case his adopters circumstances have changed and he has ended up coming back to us.

Still a ”bit of a lad” Penn is a little greyer and maybe not quite so sleek but is still full of energy and mischief. Known as “Penny-popples” by staff, he loves humans, long walks in the country and exploring new places. If his day out happens to include a pub lunch he is not one to say no! Penn cannot be let off lead (ever!) as he has a real stubborn streak when it comes to learning recall, but he does know how to walk politely on a lead. He is happy to meet other canine friends when out walking but would be happiest as the only dog. He cannot be homed with cats or other small animals.

Penn is desperate to find a new home and is beginning to show signs of boredom in kennels. Can you help this extremely lovable rogue?

treble

Treble

A 6 year old, rough little coated terrier, Treble was brought into us when his owners felt that they were not able to give him the leadership that he requires – to the detriment of all their lives!

Treble is essentially a nice little terrier. He has always lived with another dog and is doggy sociable out on walks. He is playful, enjoying balls and sticks, and loves long walks. He has reasonable basic obedience and can be let off lead. However, Treble is first and foremost a terrier. He can be pushy and will try to take over control of you and your household if he possibly can. This can lead to demanding and controlling behaviour from him, directed towards any visitors and also the residents of his household!

Treble needs to live in a household where he has plenty of fun, lots of playtime and exercise but is always treated very much as a dog. He needs consistent boundaries to help him to understand his place in your life.

buzby

Buzby

At approximately 1 year old, Buzby has not had the sort of start a Border Collie should have. He had been through several homes before being brought to us and clearly had not been given any form of consistency or training. When he arrived he was very nervous aggressive – purely because he had learnt that by barking ferociously at anything he was scared of he could make it go away.

We believe that Buzby is from working parents. He is highly intelligent and will automatically respond to movement. He is a quick learner and can remain focused whilst being taught, provided the training holds his interest. With a working dog brain he needs to be mentally stimulated to be happy. Like a lot of collies he has a desire to control, an instinct which needs to be carefully managed. He is dog and cat friendly but is too complex for a home with children.

Buzby needs experienced owners who enjoy the challenges of owning a highly intelligent working dog. He would be delighted if his new life could include agility/fly ball/working on a small holding.

marley

Marley

An 8 year English Springer Spaniel, Marley is dog and cat friendly. She finds children quite threatening and would want a child-free household. Marley is currently under assessment and is not yet available for re-homing.

Skye

Skye

Originally a stray, Skye is approximately 4 years old. Like a lot of staffys, she is very human orientated and loves to be around people. She hates the cold and loves a warm, comfy bed with toys and chews. She has plenty of energy and requires a good exercise regime with plenty of opportunity to burn off her enthusiasm.

She is not good with cats and, although she is generally good with other dogs when out walking, would need to be the only dog in the house. She has got a real stubborn streak in her and will need an experienced owner who can be quite firm with her. Because people are so important to her, Skye would not be happy in a home where she had to be left for long periods.

Skye has a big heart and a lot to give to the right people.

Edith and Mabel

Edith & Mabel

Believed to be sisters, these 10 year old Shitzu/Jack Russell cross ladies. They are used to being together and would like to stay as a pair. They have lived with other dogs and are also ok with cats.

They are lap dogs, love a cuddle and would really love an armchair in front of a fire. They are not big walkers but do like a little exercise. Neither of these girls have any sense of recall but will come to you if there are no distractions. That said they are very outgoing and if something that catches their eye they can run surprisingly quickly!

They have had something of a rough deal in life and really do deserve to be spoilt for their retirement.

We feel they would slot into any pack as they are equally happy with dogs big or small. Can you fit these beautiful ugly-bugs in your life?

Deano

Deano

Brindle and white with docked tail this handsome boy is a boxer/rottie cross [looks like big boxer].

Deano is 23 months old, good with children over 2 years old and good with other dogs. He is housetrained and fine with travelling, but not really comfortable with being left home alone.

He needs training and to learn not to chase cats or livestock. Under assessment but will need someone who can give him plenty of exercise.

Wolfie

Wolfie

A big old boy, Wolfie is approximately 10 years old. He has spent many years with insufficient exercise and stimulation which has left him with a bit of a ball fetish – we believe he would happily play ball until his legs fell off!

Due to the lack of exercise Wolfie is not as fit as he could be and has some muscle wastage in his back legs. We have begun a programme of exercise to gradually build up his strength which will need to be continued in his new home. Wolfie is quite happy to be left for a few hours and does not fret at all.

He would love a garden to run around and some ball play each day with his walkies. He would not mind sharing his home with other dogs of any size and age, or cats.

We think he would be happier without very young children as he would find this a bit too much to cope with.

Tomma

Tomma

A big, glossy, 9 month old lurcher, Tomma has been brought to us because his owners were finding it difficult to cope with him and their young children. He is extremely sociable and loves playing chase games with other dogs.

He has had some basic training which will need continuing. Tomma is not currently happy being left for long periods. Tomma needs plenty of exercise. He is essentially in his stubborn teenage phase of development so will need further training with firm and consistent ground rules to help him become a happy and respectful adult.

We feel that Tomma would benefit from living with another, older dog who can provide a steadying influence and be additional company for him. Tomma has bags of potential to be a smashing dog in the right home.

Because he is so big and boisterous Tomma is not suitable for homing with children under 14 years.

Wilbur

Wilbur

A 2 year old German Shepherd x collie, Wilbur came into us when his owners` circumstances changed drastically and they were unable to keep him.

Wilbur loves people and is extremely friendly with adults and children – if a little over exuberant at times! We believe that he has been used to visiting children from baby upwards. Wilbur has not been left very much and can panic if left alone.

He needs work learning how to meet and greet other dogs. Wilbur is new in to us and is still under assessment.

Oliver

Oliver

Scrummy little 6 month old Ollie is Jack Russell character through and through, he is full of beans and confidence.

He has had good basic training and received ongoing socialisation with other dogs and people. He needs to lead an active lifestyle with plenty of fun and different activities to stimulate him.

Although he is very dog sociable he would be happiest as the only dog in the household.

Oliver needs an experienced, terrier minded person who can lay down the ground rules and be firm with him when required as he will automatically try to climb the social scale and can become quite naughty if he does!
